Google+ Now the 2nd Largest Social Network Globally

It has not been long ago when Google+ was introduced. However, its growth rate has been seen to be immense and so it has now been considered as the 2nd largest social network. Of course, Facebook stays at no. 1 with 693 million users.

With about 343 million users, or 25 percent of all internet users in the world, Google+ now has surpassed Twitter according to a recent study conducted by Global Web Index.

It is said that a growth of 27 percent was seen on the site over December. This is all the more reason for SEO experts to include such Google+ in their search engine optimization service. Users here pertain to those active and had contributed to the site within the past month.

“Interestingly for Google, YouTube (not previously tracked by us as a social platform) comes in at No 3, demonstrating the immense opportunity of linking Google’s services through the G+ social layer. This is also a key indication of why Google+ integrated with the Google product set is so key to the future of search and the internet,” says Brett Petersen, consulting director of Global Web Index, the source of the ranking.

Youtube, now at number 3, is owned by Google and has some 300 million users or a good 21 percent of the internet user population. Twitter, previously at no. 2, now lags behind Youtube with 288 million users. However, Twitter is considered as 2013’s fastest-growing network in terms of active usage. A 40 percent growth was noted all over 31 markets.

Such rankings will even convince business owners to move to the online world to make their businesses and products reach the maximum number of target customers. It will also entice them to engage Search Engine Optimization Service from SEO experts to increase the exposure of their pages on the web.

Getting to Know Facebook Graph Search

Facebook has once again come up with another exciting update to the social networking platform. That is the Facebook Graph Search.

The Facebook Graph Search is a feature that allows the users to search for items like restaurants, shops, hotels, and others which are being used or chosen by their friends on the site. It is not like web search since web search uses keywords that will bring in the best results for the search. The Facebook Graph Search, on the other hand, allows you to combine phrases in order that you will arrive at places, people, and activities that are being shared on Facebook.

This is how it works. Foremost, the top search suggestions are being returned by the search bar. On the search bar, you can type in the things, places and activities that you like to see.

The results are being presented along with the information which is also relative to the connections made by you or by your business.

In certain cases, the search results may also suggest items that can trigger a web search like that on Yahoo, Bing, and Google. Furthermore, sponsored results can still be used by pages and apps.

Right now, the team at Facebook is still working to make the feature effective and fully functional. Be aware that the search results will be influenced by the connections of the business and the person making the search. As such, it would be very helpful if your business will have a business page, though it is not imperative.

Facebook is Now Removing Fake Likes

Just recently, Facebook has executed its latest public move against scammers who make use of malware and fraud to generate phony "Like" votes. They had just recently announced that it had started its crack down on “Likes” generated by fake accounts.

As posted by Facebook, “A Like that doesn't come from someone truly interested in connecting with a Page benefits no one.

So, the company has increased its use of automated tools that can detect and remove fraudulent "Likes".

The social network’s most public effort yet in combating false accounts, the effort is said to include the use of updated security components that can better identify suspect behavior.

According to the company, only less than 1 percent of likes, on the average, will be removed as long as the site and its affiliates are abiding by the terms. Furthermore, it said that this move will eliminate Likes which have been acquired through malware, compromised accounts, deceived users as well as purchased bulk Likes.

Scammers and malware writers have made popular the use of fraudulent Likes, or Like-jacking in spreading their attacks and diverting users to advertising or malware-serving sites, as well as advertising affiliate pages. This is because automated Like operations tend to artificially inflate the perceived popularity of a page or company, thereby enabling the attacker to collect a higher affiliate rate from an advertiser.

It was noted by Facebook that any effort of buying, selling, or otherwise artificially generating "Like" activity on the site is a violation of its terms and conditions.

Facebook had stated that Facebook’s mission is to help the world share and so it is important that only real identity of users and brands will be honored. Also, it is important that people can like only the pages which they really have interest in. This is significant in helping people see and be aware of pages that can truly provide help and enlightenment.

Social Media Analysis From Platform to Individual Level

Nowadays, Social Media has become the new business mantra. It has become a very powerful marketing medium, engaging customers to interact, communicate and convert as well as carrying immense power in influencing brand and corporate reputation, where brand image, brand loyalties and purchasing decisions alter with each mentions or conversations shared.

Social Media Analysis (SMA) helps enterprises in making these relevant business decisions by providing information as to what’s working and what’s not, therefore enabling them to optimize products, features, campaigns, and interactions on the fly.
As SMA is reactive, gathering information from an already proactive market, it also helps in determining whether who your customers are, are they engaging and how often, are they happy and if not, what their grievances are. It facilitates the adoption of corrective measures to dispel all wrong opinions against a company or its brand.

So, you must take your SMA from a platform or cross platform level down to the level of individuals, if you want to know how you can engage effectively with different individuals.

Social Media Analysis at the Individual Level: What Things to Consider?

In SMA at the individual level, both quantitative and qualitative analysis must be conducted. This done for when combined, this will help you track each individual who is engaging with your brand.

• You must make sure to determine which members of your audience have the most impact to your brand as well as influential to your other connections.

• Once you’ve ranked your brands audience, you can now prioritize the people who are most important to your brand and who assure more in-depth quantitative and qualitative analysis.

Quantitative VS Qualitative Analysis

In quantitative analysis, the frequency at which the individual engages with your brand is analyzed. Know if the individual’s engagement is sustained, come in waves, or in periodic or one time engagements. The volume of engagements segmented by engagement type is also analyzed.

In qualitative analysis, what pieces of content the individual liked, for example, on Facebook or what tweets they retweeted on Twitter are analyzed. The comments left by your followers on posts and the types of original posts that elicit responses from the individual can also be analyzed.

Pinterest Takes the 3rd Spotlight in Social Media

Pinterest is now ranking as the 3rd most popular social network!

Beating LinkedIn and Tumblr, Pinterest - a pinboard-style social photo sharing website - now ranked as the 3rd third most popular social network based on visits from U.S. Visitors.

Ranking behind Facebook and Twitter in terms of total visitors, according to an Experian Marketing Services analysis entitled "The 2012 Digital Marketer: Benchmark and Trend Report", Pinterest had garnered 104,415,903 unique visits last month alone.

The ranking had its basis on the total number of U.S. visitors during March and does not include mobile traffic, according to Experian spokeswoman Jennifer Marshall.

Now, Liking and Tweeting are not anymore the most common actions among the social media savvy, Pinning is now becoming the talk of the town as well.

Pinterest is a social media site that enables its users to essentially "pin" images, videos and other objects from the Internet onto their virtual pinboard, creating and sharing 'vision boards' of their favorite things. Once the image is "pinned", it goes to a main feed, making these pinned images to be free for other people to either repin the image or follow the user or board.

Experian's trend report says Pinterest's traffic had seen a growth of 50 per cent between January and February 2012. The invitation-only pinboard-style social site had attracted 21.5 million visits during the week ending January 28, 2012 - which is nearly 30 times the number of total visits in the six months previous to giving it a larger audience than LinkedIn.

Moreover, according to other firm’s reports, Pinterest is dominated by women, making up 60 percent of the site's users with 55 percent being between the ages of 25 and 44.

Also as reported by Experian, Pinterest could be means for any SEO Company  and webmasters in fostering "meaningful connections" between retailers and consumers.

Reddit Hits 1 Billion Monthly Page Views due to Digg's Version 4 Failure

Reddit, a subsidiary of Conde Nast Company, has reached a new milestone, garnering 1 billion monthly pageviews. That increase is said to be 300% compared to its previous stat last year and 20% compared to its recent stat last month. For the record, this is the biggest accomplishment of Reddit hitting the billion pageview milestone.

According to Reddit's official statement published on their blog post:

Never has a single punctuation mark brought us so much joy. There are only about 100 sites on the entire Internet that get a billion pageviews in a single month, and now reddit can put on its smoking jacket and join that exclusive club. The New York Times isn't on the membership list, nor is Expedia, Weather.com, about.com, or Fox News. In your face, meteorologists!

Some experts say that this success of Reddit is due to the failure of Digg's Version 4. A lot of digg users have revolted against the launching of Digg' new design and interface, resulting to its traffic drop.

Reasons Why You Don't Have to Mass Follow Twitter Users

These old days of following thousands of Twitter users a day to get thousands of followers back are gone as Twitter has recently announced on their status blog that all Twitter users are only allowed to follow a maximum of 1000 people a day. This rule has been made to lower down the number of spams that follows different pages. This has been more difficult for marketers or self-promoters to quickly increase their Twitter follower count by following many people. This rule is also designed to reduce the number of people who use tools to auto-follow anyone who follows them.

Quite a few people from social media, internet marketers, bloggers or even professional SEOs are still practicing this method which of motive of course is to get something in return. Through this practice, they are able to make money just by linking and recommending product or services, either their own or other they are affiliated with, improve their reputation and more visitor traffic.

A large list of Twitter followers and broadcast links to get traffic means the more people can listen to you and spread your messages – this is what many people believe but is a big NO as a matter of fact. There are many reasons why you don’t need to use this marketing strategy.

High Amount of Low-Value Profile – This means that out of 1000 followers who have been followed you through automatic-follow tool are not 100 percent prospective customers. Most of them are not ultra-targeted, active or responsive. Some of them have signed up just for the sake of getting freebies. The truth is, they don’t really care about you and not even interested in you.

Ineffective Twitter Marketing – Marketers should stop with the obsession of getting volume of followers. Instead of focusing on getting more followers to like you, why not think of more effective ways to use Twitter for marketing? Take note that it is not just about the number of Twitter follower that you have, it is all about who follows your and the way they respond to you.

Your Tweets Readers Matter, NOT the Amount of People Who Follow You – Focus on the number active followers rather than the volume or total of followers you have on Twitter. Active followers are those who have the most interest in your products or services and interact in your page often. They share your links, retweet and always interact with you. Powerful Twitter marketing involves not just link-blasting but network and relationship development – so who follows you matter in great deal!

The most effective way to market your business is by simply interacting to your followers. Don’t chase them; instead make them come to you.  A reliable SEO Company usually provides some online guides that can help you out deal with marketing strategy. They offer great SEO Packages that provide you with reliable search engine optimization services. This will help you gain not just more traffic but also interested and prospective audiences.

Yahoo Buzz, Traffic APIs and Delicious will soon closed

Leaked slide from a Yahoo “all hands” meeting has reported earlier this week. The products includes Delicious, AltaVista and Yahoo buzz is confirmed to be closed and so with the Traffic APIs.

According to Yahoo, they will focus more on their core strengths and will eliminate underperforming or off-strategy products that are mentioned. They are planning to fund new innovation in the coming years. They will communicate specific plans in the right time.

At this point, Yahoo has not comment yet on Delicious positively closure.

Eric Marcoullier, a previous Yahoo employee, tweeted out a picture from an internal slideshow given to Yahoo employees about firing the source of it. He confounded the service of Mybloglog. The image shows the Yahoo Buzz being the on the bottom list. This list includes the products that soon will be closed. Yahoo Buzz was launched in Feb 2008. Its name was gotten from previous trends-based products. It was as a counterpart of new Digg with close links to publishers.

AltaVista and AllTheWeb are also on the “sunset” list which is both search engines that Yahoo inherited from Overture which later in 2003 has been bought by the same company. When Google boosted the World Wide Web, AltaVista, the used to be a giant of the search world has been downgraded. The closure of these services have make sense as they don’t offer anything that Yahoo doesn’t really offer. Both of these services now are being powered by Bing. Some of this legacy traffic will finally disappear in the long term.

MyBlogLog, on the other hand, has been in its fame as a social widget that can be installed on your personalized blog. It was bought by Yahoo in 2007. But soon, it became pretty spammy and refrained using it.

Delicious is said to be one of the survivors of the social bookmarking world. This social site remains to be strong despite the closure of some of its competitors. It has been tough for Yahoo to have decided to finally close some of its social network sites for some reason. But it was said to be a terrible mistake to let the news leak out that fast. It will definitely affect its loyal users and the future of their bookmarks.

"Who to Follow” Directory Launched by Twitter

As you login to your Twitter account, you may probably notice a new tab found at the top of the page which is called “Directory” or “People” or “Who to Follow”. These are different names for a new tool which was launched by Twitter to help people find new accounts that they can follow. This  is also seen as the best attempt of Twitter to facilitate user connections.

As you will see in your Twitter page, the tab is labeled as “Directory” and other tabs such as “Who to Follow” and “People” are also visible. If you don’t see the tab/link mentioned, you may still use it if you wish to by going to http://twitter.com/#!/who_to_follow.

On the right of the page is said to be more clever as it shows the user 10 accounts that s/he has followed most recently. By simply clicking on each of the accounts, you will be shown two accounts which are the same. However, this feature will not be working if you have followed a recently created account for they may not be around enough for them to develop a reputation score which will classify them with similar accounts.
Found below that is Twitter’s already existing “Invite Friends” email tool along with two new links to tools which are recommended by Bing and Listorious.

There are also two new tabs which are found on the left side which will allow the user to browse categories of users such as “Books”, “Charity”, “Entertainment”, and so on. Users may also search services that will enable you to discover which of your friends are already into Twitter. You may notice in the page that Facebook is missing. This is due to the fact that Facebook has been blocking Twitter from accessing its information since January.
